I’ve always been enamoured with Miss Sally Rice. She constantly shows up on “Wishlist” girls for many Blythe Collectors. Like Margo Unique Girl, I never thought that I’d actually be able to obtain one. Her prices were always very high (hitting around the $800USD mark at the beginning of this year) and then… suddenly…
She appeared.
It goes to show that you might find a girl when you stop looking for her. MSR stopped appearing on my wishlists some time ago, but recently she’s been flooding Dolly Adoption Groups for $300-400 – infinitely better than what she was before. I found her at a ridiculous price on DA, and pounced. She arrived to be in her brown shipper, and in pretty good condition. She had no yellowing that I could see, and had all of her stock sans her necklace.
Look at her peering out of her box! Creamy translucent skin, golden eyes, minty coloured hair. She has funky and fun stock too!
All of her box and stock are designed with a lovely retro-pop theme. She’s covered in cherries, flowers and polkadots. She’s all primary colours and fun.
Her main smock has a pink undershirt covered in the same motifs as her box, a red top with a cute black kitten, and yellow tulips. She has a peter pan collar in blue. You can also mod up her dress by adding her frilly lace collar, her corduroy bag, lacy socks, bright blue daisies, and those wicked shoes (on the left).
When I first pulled her out of her box she had an extreme case of bed-hair (so please excuse the flyaways). I ended up deciding not to remove a lot of her stock from the box for now. I wasn’t ready to brave putting on socks on the Takara body just yet. She has special side-facing yellow chips which I think look kinda awesome on her.
She has front-facing pink chips like normal. Its always these shots that make me want to gaze-correct her but I must abstain!
She has emerald side-facing chips that go stunningly with her hair.
She also rocks those baby blues. They match her Peter-Pan collar! Her skin, translucent (like Curly Blue, NosPop) is a gorgeous creamy yellow-tone. She is blushed in this high-impact pink, and she has sepia coloured eyeshadow that borders on golden.
As I didn’t want to destroy her box just yet, I dressed her in this new ‘Preppy’ set by ChuThings. It came with a gorgeous blue top and pink shorts. I put her hair up in a casual up-do, and it’ll stay like that until I can get her into a spa.
Here she is wearing a pair of pretty sweet glasses about 10 seconds before they fell apart (the lenses popped out ha!). MSR (as she is affectionately known in Blythe-world) was released in August of 2008 which already makes her 7 years old! She was the first girl to have the new improved body, and they did give her stock to flaunt it. I mention the year here because I’ve noticed that her skin is not as shiny as Curly Blue – her and NosPop have lost their super shiny sheen and have started to glow differently. It actually looks a lot like my Kenner Raven’s glow.
I decided to try my luck using the chopstick method (propping her at the back using a chopstick) to get her to stand. She’s sporting a messenger bag by MissBlythe2012 and little kitten shoes by QMagicDoll (These might just be my favourite doll shoes ever… and then I rolled onto the floor like a ninja to get eye-level with her to take the photo. Let’s just say the family were much amused.
It’s worth it though when you can get all the stars to align (or gravity). Here she is with my trusty prop bike (can be bought through QMagicDoll or Aliexpress)… and my goodness I realised why people love MSR so much. Look at her. So gorgeously photogenic. Her bangs. Her plump lips, her sparkling golden eyes… that glow on her skin.
And yup, that’s love.
