Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt

She was the protector of nature and the hunt; both wild and tame animals were under her protection. She also protected the agriculture and animal herding.

I had a lot of fun researching Artemis, the Goddess of the Hunt. She was a bad-ass Goddess with her twin Apollo, and she ruled the moon. It bought back a lot of memories of when I was a child, and would with great fascination read about the adventures of the Greek Gods. So when Melissa asked if I could make her Artemis (or Diana, in her Roman equivalent), I completely jumped at the chance.

I do mention that one of my favourite things about doing commissions is the wonderful ideas that everyone from all over the world contacts me with. Artemis was no exception, I wanted to make her ethereal, earthy, and of course, filled with a little streak of rebellion – she was a huntress after all.

Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt

Artemis started as a tan MIO. You can see her sitting in the interior of her photobox that she’s travelling in – in her case, it’s a creamy golden temple with bright blue sapphire skies and tiles. For her expression, I wanted something fierce, so I gave her a bold red lip. Her eyes are a smokey brown but the inner corners are lit with a bright sparkling gold. She’s blushed peachily (not a word) and has winged black liner.  Her brows are a thick but defined brown, matching her long curly locks.

Her green eyes catch the light and are a brilliant sapphire green – matching for someone so magical! These eyechips are made by the brilliant Floriana of Almond Doll and they sparkle and glow as Artemis moves her head.

Artemis has golden olive eyelids, airbrushed an olive green on the outer corners and bleeding into a deep emerald, and the inner corners a bright gold. The bottom of her lids are painted in a weaving gold, green and silver pattern. She also has new luxe black lashes.

In the picture above you can see her standing in front of her forest, which is a silvery scene with a stag that I painted for the front of her photo box.

What would a hunter be without her bow right? This was modelled and 3D-printed in my workshop, and then painted by hand. It’s strung with a leather chord.

Speaking of leather chords, I was looking for gorgeous sandals for Artemis, but dolly shoes tend to be completely impractical for hunting in (high-heels, kitten heels, boots and sneakers) or completely not matching her theme, so I decided in the end to keep it simple for her shoes.

Lets talk about this fabulous dress. This was made by the wonderful Omocha Crush’s mom, and her Etsy store is called Setsie Silhouette. I asked her to make a goddess dress for me based on a concept picture, and she did an amazing job. The tops of the shoulders are beaded, and the dress flows lightly to her ankles. The best part? Artemis also comes with awesome lacy undies, as Ang’s mom says – “Goddesses do not go commando”.

It was golden hour yesterday when I managed to get home and snap a few pictures of this girl. Look at how luscious her wig looks! It’s a Leekeworld in their “Choco-brown”. One of my favourite styles too, as the texture reminds me of what Romantic Alice Blue has.

How lovely Artemis looks basked in the golden glow before the moon rises.

I’m really loving the tan MIO combo with the dark hair and green eyes! I think I might have to make another girl with this colouring one day, it just… really works. The green Almond Doll chips are just lovely.

It is so very fun posing her with her bow! I just missed the shot for the one above, the bow slipped as I was taking the photo! But…. that light…

It’s so fun putting together a fully themed doll and getting some help from some really fabulous seamstresses to create the final vision. Artemis is all packed up, and will be leaving to her new home very soon. I think I miss her already!

I seriously loved making her props this time round as well. Probably because it overlaps with my day job so much! Yay to application of skills in dolly areas!

As much as she looks lovely in gold… I think the silvery moon backgrounds also match with her very well 😀

I’ve had a few questions about when I will open up commissions again, and I will probably do so in February for a March start- however, I will re-open my waitlist so I can start planning for your doll! If you are interested, drop me a message 🙂

I hope Artemis travels safely!
