Quick preface – I kind of really love Sailor Moon. The first things I ever collected were artbooks… and Sailor Moon trinkets. I still have a sweet collection of star lockets, which I just adore. *Fighting Evil by Moonlight!* I of course was overjoyed when I saw Sailor Moon x Pullip, and jumped on Princess Serenity. I’ve been pretty good and restrained from buying others (I only have Sailor Neptune and Mars to add) but when human Luna was announced I was overjoyed. She was such a niche character!
Besides Serenity, I’ve not been completely in love with the Sailor Moon releases. Those funny pleather skirts… and I felt like they didn’t come with much stock. Luna was more a long the lines of Serenity though, and I thought they nailed her character design pretty well.
Sorry… I was trying to focus on her face but those giant black pompoms just kept killing my camera! Here’s a box shot.
Luna has a face-up that is very similar to other Sailor Moon characters. She has lilac brows like Mars, Anime-like chips like Moon (in a very similar colour), a painted on cresent moon that has a yellow spray overshoot between her forehead (I think the overshoot is ‘glow’), yellow eyeshadow and pink peachy lips and blushing.
She also has dark navy blue eyeliner!
She comes with a card, pearlescent stand, a moon necklace, anklet, and earrings (heaps of jewellery!), no shoes (because she’s a cat), a satin-yellow dress with purple chiffon and mesh lining, and no underwear (because she’s a cat).
Her hair reminds me of Romantic Alice. Kind of meeeeeh in the box, but when you pull off the plastic, it’s like a shampoo commercial with the -swish-swish- and full, glorious, purple locks flow out from the crazy odangos.
She kind of really rocks the jewels I have to say! She’s like the dark of Sailor Moon’s light. I’ve found all of the Sailor Moon releases have slightly flat face-ups… kind of like they’re a bit short on makeup. But I guess, that should be right for 14-year olds, but also a bit strange for girls who literally scream “Moon, POWER, MAKEUP!”
I find the little anklet kind of adorable – you can also see the layers of her dress in this picture! Alright let’s talk about the dress.
It’s a thick, satiny yellow, kind of like…. sunshine gold. It really needs it’s seams pressed, because at that scale it is kind of gravity-defying.
The gravity issues are mostly seen on the back where her dress juts out like Cinderella’s sisters. You can see how the gorgeous purple drops down to her ankles though. The back of her dress features two enlarged black flowers, mirroring the front.
Those black flowers… are so obvious! Kind of hilarious actually, it really draws attention to her middle area, and is kind of distracting… Her overall outfit is extremely dated – but it’s kind of understandable seeing as she was designed at the beginning of the 90’s. It’s been 25 years!
I’m not going to lie, sans the dress… she’s pretty gorgeous. Her wig is of excellent quality, her faceup, though simple, is nice. It matches her crazy hair. I wish her whole outfit was made of chiffon, I just can’t deal with all the satin…
I’m also not sure I can redress her because I have a slight aversion to re-dressing proper characters. She’s meant to be Luna. She needs to rock the Luna outfit!
Here she is with Serenity… I think they actually complement each other perfectly. Night and day! And because she looks so good with her sister, this was the moment that I thought I might be able to keep her. Until then, I was kind of unsure.
