One day in July I was clacking away at my computer when I received a ping from an unknown messenger. “Hello” The message said politely. The message was from a Christopher, who wanted to surprise one of my favourite dolly people ever (Omochacrush) on her birthday with a dolly. And… because I love surprises, covert operations, dollies, and Angie, I gleefully typed yes, and our grand plan was in place.
When TimmiLynn asked me to create Winnowill from Elfquest for her, this required a bit of research. I wasn’t aware of the character at the beginning, but a few hours later… I found out. She is one wicked lady, more evil than Maleficient, and boy, did she relish in her actions. Her description on the Elfquest page reads, “Winnowill’s cold, calculating elegance is backed by psychic powers of limitless depth and depravity”. She was going to be a fun one!
I’ve been stuck in bed all weekend, and didn’t get as much work done as I’d like. But, happily, I did manage to get started on a few of the dolls I have waiting for commission as I wait for the supplies for the others to arrive.
Thalassa holds the record of being the girl that has travelled the furthest to visit my workshop. Coming all the way from Chile, Thalassa is an Selkie who thinks she is a mermaid. She started her life as a Merl Nostalgia, and she came my way to match her personality (and her awesome eyechips) with a new face-up.
“Once upon a time there was a poor peasant who had so many children that he did not have enough of either food or clothing to give them. Pretty children they all were, but the prettiest was the youngest daughter, who was so lovely there was no end to her loveliness.”
Thus begins the fairy tale of a maiden who went searching for her love in a castle East of the Sun, and West of the Moon and her many trials and tribulations on the way. It was also the story that Melissa gave to me as inspiration for her girl.
Ok. I know. I’ve posted heaps this weekend, it’s been Dolly madness. I was meant to wait to share this girl with you but I. Could. Not.
