There are a lot of visitors in the doll house this week. It’s a bit hectic, but I’m carefully packing them all away to send them home. However, before that, I want you all to meet a very special girl that bought a little magic to my garden for a little while. An absolutely gorgeous fairy, Miss Coco Butterfly, by Babycatface Dollies.

Nancy contacted me to create counterpart to her Pere Noel – the Black Swan to the white swan. She had quite a vision for her – an young lady-in-training, not the perfect ballerina, but close. She would become an amazing dancer in her own right, one day. So with this little brief, I started work on Anna, the Black Swan (and not the black swan from Natalie Portman’s story, that’s a whole other kettle of fish).
So sometime last year I started researching the BJDs (Ball-Jointed Dolls). You could say that my interest had already been spiked by the addition of the JerryBerries to my family – and people do say Blythe and Pullip are gateways to the land of BJD.
And they would probably be right. So what did I just do…?
I have had a few regrets in my dolly-collecting journey. One of the major ones, is not picking up the original Pullip Kiyomi when she was available – because, truth be told, she was the one that made me love Pullips. When I missed out on her, I tried to keep filling the void with other releases – so when Groove announced a Kiyomi remake in a new minty colour scheme, I didn’t even think, I just hit order.
I remember years ago going to a movie without knowing really what it was about. I knew it was vaguely about magic, and love, and fairytales, and it sounded really quite grand. But boy, did I was not expecting falling head over heels in love with the characters (Tristan, with his amazing hair), the fabulous Pirates (De Niro, what a champ), and a pretty dysfunctional family dynamic. So when Cecilia asked me to make a doll of one of my accidental favourite movies ever, of course I had to say yes! So, lets meet our leading lady, Yvaine.
My first introduction to dolls really was when my brother bought be a Hatsune Miku Pullip. I found out later that Blythe had a version too… and she was translucent! She became a wishlist doll, but she slowly moved her way down, and sometimes out of the list. However, on a recent trip to Shanghai, I found her in one of the official Blythe stores… for an amazing price. Let’s meet Miku!
Look at her, strutting her stuff, in her fluffy pink bear suit and dress. I mean, her expression is full of attitude! To pull off such a bear costume, you better be confident wearing. Everyone, meet Miss February, Cherie Babette.
February is a horribly busy month for me. I teach an intensive at the University where we try to build a huge structure in a fortnight, and let’s just say its one tiring slog with not much sleep. Completely exhausting, and barely any sleep (I’m like a zombie that has emerged from a deep bottomless pit) so I apologize for the very slow dolly updates! (I’m also having an awful time deciding which girl to get… Kiyomi Mint? My Melody? The Little Prince girls? AH! TOO MANY, February!). I’ve managed over the last few days to get some rest, and now finally I can get back into my dolly mojo.
I managed to sneak over to pick up six very fabulous visitors though, which I will slowly introduce to everyone here. I also managed to do a very quick photoshoot with the first two… and what an absolutely special girl I have today.

About one day before I left for Shanghai, a very special box arrived at my doorstep. Unassuming and brown, inside, the box held a little girl of wonder, rainbows and colour! I’d like for you to meet Bubblegum, my very own G.Baby girl.
I’m finally back from my work trip, so I wanted to introduce to everyone a very special visitor from late last year – Little Red Riding Hood by Nanuka.
